Omaha Area Museums Below are just 3 of Omaha's many museums. If these particular museums don't interest you, please visit www.visitomaha.com for a complete listing. These 3 just happen to be my favorites in the area. Strategic Air & Space Museum Unfortunately I have not been to the new Strategic Air & Space Museum. However, in 3rd grade my class visited the old Strategic Air Command at Offut Air Force Base. Not only was it one of my favorite school trips, but I think it was my dad's too! If the new museum is anything like the old one, it's amazing! The Strategic Air & Space Museum is regarded as the nation's foremost facility of its kind. It is responsible for preserving the history of the Strategic Air Command and its role in securing peace. Some noteable features of the museum: The glass atrium is a breathtaking structure constructed of 525 glass panels that encase the awesome Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird. Visitors also have the opportunity to watch the restoration of warplanes as technicians prepare them for display. For a list of the aircraft currently in their collection visit: www.strategicairandspace.com/collections/collections.htm

The DWHM explores the history of Omaha. Located inside Union Station, a beautifully restored art deco landmark, it showcases train cars, a teepee and earth lodge, early city homes, a covered wagon and more. Meanwhile, Joslyn is Nebraska’s premier center for the visual arts featuring works from antiquity to the present and has an extensive collection on art of the American West.
