Huntsman spider

This is apparently a Huntsman spider. Well, probably not our favorite part of living in Manly, Australia has it's fair share of spiders. This spider is probably about the same size as the end of a paper towel roll tube.

Fortunately, this type of spider is relatively harmless. I think my cat Bastet had a run in with one, and spent a few days under the bed afterwards.
