A simple way of blocking banner and pop up ads to block them by editing yours hosts file. This quick and dirty technique can prevent quite a few banner and pop up ads from displaying. This works for Firefox, Internet Explorer, or any other browser on your system.
First you need to open your hosts file. Copy this line into your Run dialog box:
notepad %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Next, copy and paste the following text just below:
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 ads.PointRoll.com 127.0.0.1 ads.x10.com 127.0.0.1 images.technoscout.com 127.0.0.1 doubleclick.net 127.0.0.1 m.doubleclick.net 127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net 127.0.0.1 ads.doubleclick.net 127.0.0.1 cserver.mii.instacontent.net 127.0.0.1 fastclick.net 127.0.0.1 media.fastclick.net 127.0.0.1 media17.fastclick.net 127.0.0.1 ns1.fastclick.net 127.0.0.1 ns2.fastclick.net 127.0.0.1 us.toto.geo.yahoo.com 127.0.0.1 banners.valuead.com 127.0.0.1 www.burstnet.com
