This weekend I created two new websites:

and

banner.png

The first lets you turn an ordinary URL into one like:

http://011010.com/0110100001110100011101000111000000111010001011110010111101100101011011100010111001110111011010010110101101101001011100000110010101100100011010010110000100101110011011110111001001100111001011110111011101101001011010110110100100101111010000100110100101101110011000010111001001111001

The second creates URLs like this: http://IlIIl.com/IllIlIIIIlllIlIIIlllIlIIIlllIIIIIIlllIlIIIlIllllIIlIllllIllIIlIlIllIlllIIIlIlllIIlllIlllIllIlIIlIllIlIllIllIlIIlIlllIIIIIllIIlIlIllIIlIIIllIlIIlIllIIIIlIIlIlllIIllIllllIlllIIlIIllIIlllIIlIllllIlllIlllIllIlIIlIllIlIllIllIlIIlIIlIllllIlIIIIlIIllIIIIlIlllIIlIIllIIIllIllIllllIllIIlIIIllIIlIl

I got my idea from http://hugeurl.com, which I found by way of http://robertmaldon.blogspot.com/2009/05/stop-short-url-rot-use-hugeurl.html, but I didn't like that the URLs it creates are completely meaningless. Initially, I wanted to but binaryurl.com and barcodeurl.com, but both these domains were purchased and parked. Then I got the idea for the domain names themselves to be binary and barcode. In the end, I'm much happier with the domains I purchased.

The URL lengthener sites will probably never be as popular the the URL shorteners, but it's fun to offer something different.
